JJ Bracey is 16 years old and lives in the Northern Territory, where she spends all her time training a variety of horses. JJs focus is on treating each horse as an individual and she believes every horse deserves a chance regardless of their history – all they need is somebody who believes in them enough to make a change and give them a new story.
Having wanted to take part in this challenge for years, JJ now feels capable to be able to give it her best shot. She loves a good challenge and working with a blank canvas is very rewarding. Brumbies have a very special place in JJs heart, with her training many Northern Territory Brumbies and her top liberty horse, Destiny, being a Brumby mare.
JJ believes that training an older, unhandled Brumby requires a lot of understanding and trust. They require a gentle but firm hand with a lot of consistency and accurate timing with a vast knowledge of being able to read their body language and act accordingly. It takes a lot of patience and under a skilled hand it is very rewarding.
VBA Fiora is a stunning flaxen chestnut mare who was caught from Kosciuszko National Park in 2018. Although not in foal at the time of her capture, she was turned out with our bigger groups just in case. She has been able to grow strong and healthy at our Brumby Junction sanctuary prior to coming if for the McDowell's Australian Brumby Challenge.
